Craiglea
  • 6 storeys - 4 residential levels & 2 carpark levels
  • 19 apartments
  • Completed 1995
  • Pool, gym, sauna

Project overview

Craiglea replaced:

  • 83 x 20W halogen lamps in the corridors, lobby and pool areas with 83 x 7.4W LED lamps
  • 80 x 36W T8 fluorescent tubes in the car park with 80 x 14W LED tubes

Many of the lamps were on 24 hours per day and sensors were also installed to further reduce energy usage.

Alternatives evaluated

LED tubes and T5 fluorescent tubes were considered for the car park. The T5 tubes were a little cheaper but the LED tubes used less energy, provided a more consistent colour light and will last longer – so the LED tubes were chosen because they were a better long term solution.

Rebates & incentives

The project generated Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs) under the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) and Craiglea received them as an upfront discount from the lighting supplier. Some of the lights which were on for 24 hours per day ended up being free.

Pricing

The final project cost was $9,512 with a payback period of just under 12 months

Savings

A cost benefit analysis showed that Craiglea would achieve annual savings of:

  • 36,545 kWh
  • 35,450 kg CO2
  • approximately $9,648
